In commemoration of celebrating upgrading of Atomic Bomb Disease Institute at Nagasaki University since April 1st 2013, “The International Kick-Off Symposium for Atomic Bomb Disease Institute at Nagasaki University” was held on November 28th to 29th, 2013 at Bauduine Hall, Ryojun Matsumoto Auditorium, Nagasaki University School of Medicine. The number of participants amounted to about 75, and the symposium was led to success.

The opening ceremony of the symposium was commenced with the opening address by Dr. Shigeru Katamine, President of Nagasaki University, followed by addresses of Mr. Kentaro Sugiura from Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Sciences &Technology, Japan. This symposium is composed of three sessions including Session 1 (Radiation and Medicine), Session 2 (Radiation and Biology) and Session 3 (Radiation and Disaster), each including papers from speakers in this institute, domestic guest speakers and international guest speakers. Each paper was discussed actively and “New Atomic Bomb Disease Institute at Nagasaki University” has embarked on full-scale activity.
