The 22nd Seminar

Thought and Science about Life

Professor Naotake Kato, Kyoto University

When considering Thought and Science about life today, the 3 following issues are very controversial as a pressing issue in medical scene, and in the press and mass communication.

  1. Thoughts of euthanasia, artificial abortion and the rejection of blood transfusion for religious reasons.
→ Is it correct to leave these decisions to a right of self-determination?
  2. Gender identity disorder treatment, enhancement issues, assisted reproduction technologies and medical ethics.
→ Is this justifiable "medial practice?" Do humans have the access authority?
  3. The progress of human embryo cloning, ES Cells and heterogenous transplants and social ethic.
→ Are there any possibilities of infringing human dignity?

The above issues will be given deep consideration throughout this seminar in the view of Thought and Science about Life.
