Reports on The 13th International Congress of Endocrinology |
Yuji Nagayama, Department of Medical Gene Technology |
The 13th International Congress of Endocrinology was held at the RioCentro Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 8 to 12, 2008, with approximately 6,000 participants. I was invited as the speaker in the thyroid autoimmunity symposium. The convention Center is located in a remote area, and the complimentary shuttle bus service was offered only in the morning and evening, so that once we went to the congress, we had to stay there in whole days.
There were numerous high-level lectures provided by the world top-class researchers. The topics in the thyroid cancer field include differential diagnosis of benign follicular adenoma and malignant follicular cancer, genetic anticipation in familial thyroid cancers, evaluation of effect of molecular–targeted thyroid cancer treatment, involvement of PTEN and PI3K in thyroid carcinogenesis, kinase activities in thyroid cancers, etc; those in thyroid autoimmunity include immunogenetics, mouse models of autoimmune thyroid diseases, treatment of ophthalmopathy, etc. The contents of these lectures are very useful for considering our future projects.
The followings are the tiles of the symposium and the oral presentation from this GCOE program.
