Reports on the 2nd Asian Congress of
Radiation Research (ACRR 2009) |
Takujiro Homma
Department of Molecular Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences |
I visited Korea to attend the 2nd Asian Congress of Radiation Research (ACRR2009) during May 17-20, 2009. ACRR, which is organized by the Korean Association for Radiation Research, has been held every four years. The venue this year was COEX mall, the largest shopping centre in Seoul. No less than six hundred people from 28 countries were participated. The program was composed of 3 plenary lectures and 24 symposia covering diverse field of radiation research areas and various issue of radiation biology were discussed. Among them, I was primarily interested in three topics—DNA damage response, low dose radiation effect and molecular targets development. In poster session I had a poster presentation entitled
“ Analysis of radiation-induced 53BP1 foci in primary human thyrocytes.” I presented my work based on molecular imaging technique to evaluate individual foci as DNA repair activity in primary human thyrocytes and received comments from few researchers about the more analyzes we should think of in the near future.
Overall, the conference was useful and had given me a great opportunity to familiarize and explore about the current status of radiation research in Asia. Finally, I appreciate the financial support by the Global COE Program and Professor Shunichi Yamashita and Associate Professor Keiji Suzuki for giving me the opportunity and invaluable experience. |
