Reports on the 2nd Asian Congress of
Radiation Research (ACRR 2009)

Shinko Kobashigawa
Life Sciences and Radiation Research, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

I went to 2nd Asian Congress of Radiation Research (ACRR) in May 17th through May 20th. That was my first time to attend international conference, it was so exciting. ACRR is held once in four year. Last time was held at Hiroshima, Japan. And this time was Seoul, South Korea. Many scientists who is working for radiation were come to ACRR from all around Asia, especially South Korea, Japan, and India.

There were so many topics about nuclear medicine.
It seems that there is so much necessity about the topic in Asia. Also, there were presentations about DNA damage response, low dose radiation effect, cancer therapy, radiation risk. I presented a poster about delayed increment of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction after irradiation. The radiation effect on mitochondria is not so much understood, I'm eager to find out what is happening on mitochondria. My poster was about the increment of super oxide production from mitochondria after irradiation, and mitochondrial morphological change.

I am so thankful for giving me an opportunity to attend ACRR.
