Public perception of risk and trust in risk manager |

How do people perceive various risks accompanying technologies and human activities? Psychologists have been approaching to this problem in the field of risk perception. In this lecture, the dual process theories and other models of risk perception will be presented. Based on the psychological theories we will discuss why public sometimes do not accept experts’ risk assessments as well as their policies of risk management.
Public acceptance of a technology strongly depends on their trust to the risk managers of the technology. Then, what determines social trust? We will take a general view of studies on trust and discuss how to build public trust in risk managers. |
