The 79th Seminar

What kind of communication is necessary between nuclear technology and society?

Dr. Ekou Yagi
Adjunct Associate Professor, Center for the Study of Communication-Design, Osaka University, Japan

In this lecture, I will introduce two cases of dialogues of people who take different positions, or having different opinions on nuclear issues. One is “Dialogue forum” where nuclear specialists and local residents on nuclear sites discuss their concern about nuclear technology, and the other is “Open forum” where two nuclear specialists who have different views on nuclear issues discuss in public.

Through introducing these cases, I will discuss if it is possible to build a trusting relationship among people who have different positions and opinions especially on nuclear issues by having a dialogue, as well as how places for dialogues need to be designed in order for that. Based on that, I’d like to indicate possibilities and issues of trying this kind of dialogues.
